Remembering #HolocaustRemembranceDay Today I too will reflect on the events that took place at Auschwitz-Birkenau. I will never forget the feeling that engulfs you with grief and sorrow when I visited. @ExecSuptKWatts @NYCSchools @HolocaustMuseum @TheJewishMuseum @IsraelinNewYork
It's important to remember that the Holocaust did not start from gas chambers & murder. The hatred slowly developed from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice, through legal exclusion, escalating violence & dehumanization. -@AuschwitzMuseum #HolocaustRemembranceDay
The most important, most formative book I've ever read is the Diary of Anne Frank. She helped me understand at an early age how we're all human, our pressing need for freedom is the same, that honoring truth and our conscience is the most vital thing.
“Nazis admired America’s racial ideology, and our “race science”. Our Jim Crow laws were used as a model for the Nazi Nuremberg laws. Our immigration laws, which banned non-whites and Jews, and the sick and the weak, were vocally admired by Hitler.”
