President-elect Joe Biden has selected Avril Haines to be director of national intelligence. If confirmed, Haines would be the first woman to be the nation’s top intelligence officer, charged with overseeing more than a dozen U.S. intelligence agencies.
Few in either party expected Trump’s coattails to be as long. House Democrats blame that and other errors, like failing to grow appeal among enough Latino voters, for making them lose enough seats that they’ll have the smallest majority in over a century.
